Qantas says nitrogen mistake won’t happen again
An ABC report says Qantas is confident a mistake where nitrogen was placed in the oxygen tanks of a plane will never be repeated.
The potentially poisonous gas was accidentally pumped into the emergency tanks of a plane at Melbourne Airport in September.
The mix up resulted in 51 planes being checked, but no flights left the ground with the wrong gas on board.
The chief engineering general manager, David Cox, says the matter has been fully investigated.
“The technician in this instance realised the mistake as he was doing it, and immediately corrected the situation,” he said.
“The major significance of why we launched the investigation was to make sure we had measures in place to ensure it couldn’t happen again.”
