Qantas says sorry for bumping kids from flight

Saturday, 12 Apr, 2007 0

Qantas has expressed its regret for bumping two unaccompanied children from a flight from Wellington to Sydney, with the 11 year old and eight year old prevented from getting on the flight as it was considered too heavy.

They were flown to Auckland and then to Sydney.

Qantas spokesman Lloyd Quartermaine said yesterday that the children’s tickets were an internet booking and the airline was only notified of their unaccompanied status on check-in.

He says the weight issues with the plane meant a number of passengers were unable to board, including the children.

Qantas says the children’s guardian was advised and offered the re-route which was accepted and the children’s parents were notified, including the guardian meeting them in Sydney.

Mr Quartermaine says the children were met by a Qantas representative in Auckland who escorted them to their new Sydney-bound flight.

Perhaps if they had booked through an agent………..??

Any comments?
