Qantas, STB and Changi Airport team up to boost Singapore tourism

Aussie flag carrier Qantas, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Changi Airport Group have inked a three-way agreement to promote the Lion City as a destination and air hub linking Australia and Europe.

The $5 million partnership rolls out as Qantas resumes its Sydney-London service via Singapore.

"Singapore is Qantas’ largest hub outside of Australia, carrying more than 20% of our wide body fleet. It is a cornerstone city in our international network strategy and plays an important role in our ability to respond to the incredible growth we are seeing in travellers from Asia," said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.

"The deal will allow Qantas to better leverage our powerful partner network in the region."

The campaign seeks to drive more passengers to Changi and with it more stopover business, says STB’s chief executive Lionel Yeo.

"Australia and the UK have always been important source markets for Singapore. The addition of more Qantas services, especially the return of the iconic Kangaroo Route, is set to draw even more visitors from the two countries," he said.

Changi Airport handled 62.2 million passenger movements last year, with nearly a third being transit passengers.
