Quantum of the Seas cruising back to Singapore next year

Royal Caribbean has announced it is sending its largest ship in Asia back to Singapore for a six-month homeporting stint.

Quantum of the Seas will sail 34 cruises from November 2019 to April 2020 and it expects to boost Singapore cruise traffic by about 150,000.

The ship has a capacity for nearly 5,000 guests.

"We see Singapore as key in our strategy on two fronts. One, as a vibrant economy and two, as the destination of choice for international markets as well," said president and chief executive Michael Bayley.

Itineraries unveiled include five-night and week-long cruises to Port Klang, Penang and Phuket, and seven night sailings to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.

Quantum of the Seas is scheduled for a spell in dry dock for a refresh before starting its Singapore season.

"The Quantum’s upcoming deployment is a strong endorsement of Singapore’s status as Southeast Asia’s home port of choice," said Yap Chin Siang, assistant chief executive of the policy and planning group at Singapore Tourism Board.

STB data revealed that the cruise industry generates about $706 million to the local economy.
