Queensland to call for "free sky"
Brisbane Airport will today call for greater access for international airlines into Australia.
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO Koen Rooijmans plans to tell the 2006 Asia Pacific Aviation Summit that Queensland and Australia are “potentially losing billions of international tourism and investment dollars and access to lower international airfares because of the barriers facing international airlines coming into Australia.”
Mr Rooijmans expects his call to be supported by the state’s leading tourism and investment attraction bodies.
Lively and topical debate about the impact of increased competition from airlines such as Emirates and Singapore, as well as the potential for low-cost Asian carriers spreading their wings into Australia, is expected to be a feature of the summit
