Queensland’s Magnetic Island to stage Adventure Games
Queensland’s Magnetic Island is readying itself for a surge in visitors when it hosts the second annual Adventure Games later this month.
The Adventure Games, which is an Amazing Race-style event, kicks off on October 24-26, sends teams around the island to compete in games and sports, and mental challenges with prizes up for grabs.
Activities Coordinator, Joel Savage from Adventurethon says the event is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
"We’re expecting teams of families, school groups, corporates and travellers to be registering over the next month, and estimate the 2014 Adventure Games will attract more than 300 entrants," he said.
"This will be the second year that the games have been held on Magnetic Island and we expect that this will be Townsville’s biggest ever scavenger hunt."
Prizes on offer include a $4,000 advertising and marketing package for the winning corporate team and a Whitsundays sailing experience for the victorious adventure team.
Random prizes will also be awarded throughout the weekend.
The event will also put Magnetic in the spotlight as a tourist destination, according to Paul Victory, General Manager of SeaLink Queensland.
"The Adventure Games are a great opportunity to showcase all that Magnetic Island has to offer, and allow local tourism operators to reap the benefits. This event is a great way for locals who think they already know everything about Magnetic Island to discover something new."
