United States: Airports closed by the worst winter storms in years
If you are heading out to the eastern half of the United States in the next week or so, make sure you take a hat.
A massive area of the US has been hit by one of the worst winter storms in many years; the storm has killed more than 20 people so far and has been dubbed “the beast of the east”.
Much of the area between New York and Washington is now under a state of emergency with residents being told to stay at home and more snow forecast for the next few days. Airports including those in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington were closed by as much as two feet of snow; subway systems in New York and Washington ground to a halt and many national monuments and tourist attractions in the region were closed down.
One weather expert said the storm may well go down as one of the worst five in history, and at least two feet of new snow is expected to hit New Jersey in the next 24 hours. Anyone heading for the region is advised to take local advice before setting off.
