Reflecting a dynamically evolving sector
“VisitBritain’s merger of British Travel Trade Fair into the new Best of Britain consumer event, recognises the growing significance of business tourism and the increasing blurring of the lines between visits for business and pleasure. Last December’s International Passenger Survey (IPS) carried out by the Office for National Statistics showed a 56% rise in total spend by overseas business visitors whose purpose was to ‘attend an event’, in the five years to 2006 – not all of that was on delegate fees! This must not be seen as the demise of a trade fair, but a reinvention of an event to reflect a dynamically evolving sector.â€
