Regional carrier JetGo suspends flights, goes into administration
Aussie regional carrier JetGo has been grounded and has entered voluntary administration.
JetGo said it has appointed administrators and all scheduled services are suspended.
Its scheduled services included flights linking Wollongong, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Rockhampton and Townsville.
Its financial woes have come to a head after the Dubbo Regional Council requested the company be wound up over money owed to the Council amounting to more than $270,000.
The Council says it is ‘acting responsibly’ to recover taxpayers’ money.
The Shellharbour City Council, which operates the Illawarra Regional Airport, is also owed money and will seek to recoup it through the administration.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said she hopes another carrier can step in to maintain flight services.
"What we would like to do is try and ensure those services continue," Saliba said.
Appointed administrator Jonathan Mcleod has written to all affected customers advising they contact their credit card provider.
It is thought that around 4,000 customers are affected who purchased tickets to fly during June.
