Regional carriers hike pay to combat pilot shortage
Facing a critical pilot shortage, American Airlines-owned regional carriers will bump up pay by 50% through August 2024. Piedmont Airlines and Envoy Air are offering big pay hikes as they struggle to replace outgoing pilots.
Many regional pilots have left to join American’s mainline business, which is also facing major staffing challenges. All airlines are struggling to refresh their workforce with enough new hires.
For first-year captains at Piedmont Airlines, pay rises to $146 an hour, up from $78 an hour.
