Resort unveils UK’s first inland surf wave
Guaranteed year round surfing when sea conditions are unsuitable will be the central feature of the UK’s first inland surf wave.
The wave, part of a £25 million development in Cornwall, will enable surfers of all levels to practice and learn before attempting the county’s surf beaches
The inland surf wave is part of Retallack Surfside comprising 100 surf “podsâ€, each with two double bedrooms, en suite bathrooms and storage for wetsuits and boards, and 125 holiday homes.
Surfside will compliment the adjoining Retallack Resort & Spa after planning permission was granted for work to start.
The Retallack Surfside area covers almost 100 acres close to the north Cornish Coast and equidistant from Newquay, Rock and Padstow.
How the inland surf wave will work is not explained, other than being described as a “revolutionary ventureâ€. No date was given for the project to open.
A percentage of the accommodation at will be sold to private investors. The cost of single suite surf pods starts at £39,000.
Other facilities planned include a climbing wall, pony trekking, cycling, coarse fishing and nature trails. Retallack Resort already offers tennis courts, a nine-hole pitch and putt golf course, indoor swimming pool, gym and spa.
