Retired travel agent and twin drown in Mexico
A former travel agent and her twin sister drowned after being washed out to sea by a freak wave while on holiday.
Retired 67-year old Americans Beverly Skripsky and Barbara Thomas were caught by the wave during a morning stroll in Cabo San Lucas on the Baja California Peninsula.
It is the second such incident just days apart after 65-year old Steven Urycki drowned after being swept into the ocean while fishing.
Over the years several tourists and residents have drowned under similar circumstances.
The US Embassy in Mexico had posted warnings cautioning travelers on Cabo beaches.
It says some beaches known for hazardous waves are not clearly marked as such.
"Swimmers, waders and even people simply walking along the beaches have been washed into the ocean by rogue waves. Some have drowned and others have disappeared. Strong currents could lead to dangerous conditions for even the most experienced swimmers."
According to US State Department data, five Americans drowned in Baja California Sur last year.
