Ritz Carlton signs ski resort in Japan

Marriott International’s upscale Ritz Carlton brand is coming to two new locations in Asia with an agreement signed with long time partner YTL Hotels.

The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui, a new build resort, will feature 187 rooms and pool villas on the beachfront in the north of the Thai holiday island.

The ski-in and ski-out Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Niseko, Japan is the first of its kind for Ritz Carlton and will have 50 guestrooms.

It becomes the brand’s fifth location in Japan after Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Okinawa when it opens in 2020.

"We have had a long-standing relationship with Marriott International since 1995. This expansion into Thailand and Japan is a continuation of our shared success over the years. The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui and the Reserve in Niseko Village will elevate the stature of the two highly sought-after tourist destinations," said Mark Yeoh, executive director of YTL Hotels.

"Niseko is a natural choice to complement our existing exclusive portfolio," added Herve Humler, Ritz-Carlton’s president and chief operating officer.
