Row over Rock stimulates travel demand
A price comparison website has seen a 267% rise in the numbers looking to travel to Gibraltar since the ‘Rock’ hit the headlines last week.
As Britain and Spain argue whether any new deal for Britain with the EU will apply to Gibraltar post-Brexit, TravelSupermarket says it is seeing rising demand for holidays the British territory.
It says the numbers looking for flights to Gibraltar has risen four-fold since UK Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50 and politicians started rowing over the future of the Rock.
TravelSupermarket spokesperson Emma Morris said: "Holidaymakers find inspiration in a variety of places, from films and TV shows, to newspapers and current affairs.
"Seeing aerial shots of ‘the Rock’, sun-soaked red phone boxes and the location’s famous Barbary macaque population in news reports has clearly given some people the urge to check out the deals available."
