Royal Caribbean alters dozens of itineraries due to Allure of the Seas’ propulsion issues

Propulsion issues with Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas is playing havoc with itineraries for a number of other ships.

The Allure is sailing at a reduced cruising speed meaning changes and alternate ports for sailings.

That is also impacting other ships, the line says, with more than 30 itineraries being revised, including Oasis of the Seas.

Passengers booked on Oasis were emailed with the news according to website Cruise Crtic.

"We had to change Allure’s itineraries, and some ports will now have more ships than originally planned. So, to ensure you have a wonderful time in each destination with less crowding, we’ve rearranged the order we’ll visit each port," it said.

"The itinerary modifications were due to a technical limitation on one of the ship’s propulsion pods which lowers the maximum speed," Royal Caribbean later said in a statement.

The cruise line hasn’t yet disclosed when Allure’s problems will be fixed.

The ship is scheduled to go into dry dock in March 2020 for a planned multi-million dollar upgrade.
