Royal Caribbean appoints global health chief
Royal Caribbean Group has appointed former Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Calvin Johnson as its first ever Global Head, Public Health and Chief Medical Officer.
Johnson has overall responsible for the group’s health and wellness policy, and will manage the public health and clinical practice.
He will also be a key figure on the Healthy Sail Panel to ensure new protocols and recommendations are implemented.
"Calvin’s extensive experience in public health and clinical care will help us raise the bar on protecting the health of our guests," said Richard Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group.
Dr. Johnson was Secretary of Health for Pennsylvania from 2003-2008 and was previously Medical Director for the New York City Department of Health.
Most recently he was Principal at Altre Strategic Solutions Group and was previously Chief Medical Officer for Corizon Health.
He has experience in leading response efforts during outbreaks of infectious diseases.
The Healthy Sail Panel is a collaborative effort between Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings to develop enhanced cruise ship health and safety standards.
