Royal Caribbean Group, NCLH submit Healthy Sail Panel report to CDC

Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings have submitted their joint plan of action to restart cruise operations.

A report has been delivered to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showing how they hope to operate under new enhanced health and safety protocols.

The two companies joined forces in July to set up a joint task force called the Healthy Sail Panel to develop safety standards.

The report details 74 different measures the cruise lines will adopt including rigorous sanitation practices, handling shore excursions and more protection for crew members.

It also covers passenger screening and testing before boarding and how to manage any positive Covid-19 cases or an outbreak on board.

Norwegian Chief Executive Frank Del Rio told Reuters he does not know how much any new protocols will cost.

"Put it in context, this is a drop in the bucket. We are at a zero revenue environment. This is a necessary step to return to service and we’re not really concerned about what the costs are," Del Rio said.
