Ryanair now introduce charges for airport check-in
Ryanair has announced that it will charge an extra £2 per person for passengers who check in at the airport.
The charge, which used to be for online check-in, has now been switched to airport check-in in order to encourage more passengers to check in online.
However, the online check-in is only available to passengers travelling with just hand luggage and as well as avoiding the additional £2 charge, these passengers automatically get priority boarding.
Passengers who need to check in bags, but want priority boarding, can pay a £2 charge when booking, but they will still have to check in at the airport and pay an additional £2.
The changes come into force for bookings made from September 20.
Ryanair’s Peter Sherrard said: “Ryanair’s web check in and priority boarding service has proven very popular among passengers by freeing them from check-in queues and departure gate queues.
“However clearly charging for this service has acted as a disincentive.” “We expect that providing this service free of charge (with Ryanair’s generous hand baggage allowance of 10 kilos) will significantly increase usage.”
Ryanair also charges £5 per checked in bag.
As Australian aviation analyst told The Mole, “Don’t you love Ryanair, they keep coming up with new ways to drive revenue, streamline the process and reduce costs……..and people still fly with them………..why?………because they are very cheap.” “Watch out for more of this tyep of thing in Australia nd New Zealand.”
