Bologna has joined Sicily and Oslo as airports earmarked for expansion by Ryanair next year.
The airline is to base a third aircraft at the Italian airport and open a 24th route from next March.
Flights will start to Malaga and frequencies on routes between Bologna and Stansted and Ibiza will rise.
Routes from Bologna to Seville and Bratislava will continue to operate throughout the winter
The carrier expects to handle 1.5 million passengers through the airport a year from 2010.
