Ryanair temporarily closing Brussels base
Ryanair will close its aircraft base at Brussels Airport during the winter, blaming the introduction of the Belgian flight tax.
It will no longer base two aircraft at the airport and will no longer work with crew stationed in Belgium, but flights with foreign crew will continue to be operated, Brussels Airport said.
Ryanair represents 8% of total passenger traffic at Brussels Airport.
It currently operates 30 flights a day at Brussels Airport, of which 10 flights are operated with crew stationed in Belgium.
The airport says Ryanair also cites difficult relations with the unions in Belgium, and Brussels Airport’s new airport tariffs from April 2023.
It will have little impact on the range of destinations available at Brussels Airport, with other airlines serving the destinations except for Pisa and Amman.
