Ryanair to fly from Frankfurt
Ryanair has unveiled plans to start flying from Frankfurt from March.
The airline, which previously said it was too expensive for low-cost carriers to fly from major European hubs like Frankfurt, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and London Heathrow, announced the move at a press conference this morning.
It will base two aircraft at the airport and will fly daily to Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Malaga and Faro.
Ryanair will be the first low-cost airline to open a base at Frankfurt am Main, Germany’s biggest airport and the main home of Lufthansa.
It said it will be working closely with Frankfurt am Main to open new routes and deliver low fare traffic growth as part of its continuing rapid growth in the German market.
Ryanair chief Michael O’Leary, a high profile supporter of the remain campaign, has already warned that the airline will look to expand outside of the UK in light of Brexit.
Meanwhile, Ryanair’s latest figures showed it grew passenger numbers by 13% to 10.9 million in October.
Rolling annual traffic to October grew 16% to 114.4 million customers and October load factor rose 1 percentage point to 95%.
