Ryanair’s peak season charges kick in today

Ryanair’s new peak season luggage fees come in today, pushing up the cost of checking in a bag from £15 each way to £20.

The higher fees will remain in force for the whole of July and August and apply to all Ryanair flights.

To soften the blow, the budget airline will allow passengers to pay £5 more to buy an additional 5kg, bringing their total luggage allowance to 20kg and the total cost to £25 each way.

Passengers who forget to check in online will be stung for an extra £40 per 15kg bag or £50 per 20kg bag checked in at the airport.

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary will tell TV viewers this evening that he is still considering charging passengers to use onboard toilets and he is exploring the possibility of ‘standing seats’ on aircraft.

Speaking on ‘Beat the Budget Airlines’, to be shown on ITV at 7.30pm, O’Leary said safety tests of the £4 to £8 seats have been scheduled for next year.
