SAA’s exciting new developments for Aussie and Kiwi passengers
South African Airways has announced changes to its flight schedule into Australia with effect from May 2007, as well as additional business class capacity on the route.
According to Thevan Krishna, SAA’s Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand, the proposed new schedule and additional aircraft capacity will have major benefits for passengers travelling to Africa and South America.
“We have carefully evaluated our existing schedule and made some real improvements that will mean passengers have far better through-connections to African, South African and South American destinations, significantly cutting down airport waiting time,” Thevan said recently.
“From May 1, 2007, the new schedules to and from Perth will be as follows:
JNB-PER-JNB
Time changes are effective 01/05/07 – 30/6/07 and from 01/10/07 – 27/10/07:
SA280 DEP JNB 2205 ARR PER 1345
SA281 DEP PER 2355 ARR JNB 0525
From 1/7/07 – 30/09/07, arrival and departure times will be as follows:
SA280 DEP JNB 2220 ARR PER 1345
SA281 DEP PER 2355 ARR JNB 0540
“This means SAA will have same day connections to and from most points in Africa and for regular travellers this means we will now be the fastest to many African destinations.
“In addition, cumbersome overnight stays at airport hotels flying out on our Perth service will be a thing of the past.
“Connections within Australia for the Perth services remain favorable, and a major boon for passengers travelling to South America means SAA has a number of same- day connections to Sao Paulo as well.”
“Another exciting development is that SAA is in the process of upgrading its current A340-200 aircraft to the more modern A340-300E aircraft with a gradual phase-in from July 2007 onwards.
“For business class passengers SAA will continue to provide our award-winning lie-flat seat, with the number of seats increasing from the current 24 to 38 per aircraft. For our economy class passengers the A340-300E aircraft is equipped with individual seat back TV’s with both audio and video-on-demand.
“Passengers travelling to and from New Zealand will not have to endure the previous long transit times in Perth from 1 May, 2007. Similarly, passengers travelling from Australia’s East Coast have the option of flying through Perth for the best connections to African destinations.
“These enhancements are expected to meet the demand for additional business class seats as well as improving connections into Africa, South America and New Zealand, Thevan concluded.
