Sabah organises largest ecotourism conference in Asia
Sabah is set to host the largest ecotourism conference in Asia, the Asia Pacific Ecotourism Conference (APeco 2002), 3rd-6th October, as part of Malaysia’s program for the International Year of Ecotourism.
Joining Malaysian Association of Tours and Travel Agents, MATTA as organizers and main sponsors are Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism MOCAT, Sabah Tourism STPC, Ministry of Tourism Development, Environment, Science and Technology, MOTEST Asian Productivity Organisation APO , National Productivity Corporation NPC, Tourism Malaysia MTPB and Japan Ecotourism Society JES.
The four days conference to be held at Pacific Wing, Sutera Harbour Resorts and Spa is expected to attract 600 delegates from over 20 countries.
The Japan Ecotourism Society has confirmed it is sending 150 delegates to tour different parts of Sabah and Sarawak and present their report on the final day of the conference on their perspective of Sabah/Sarawak as an ecotourism destination for the Japanese market.
Around 150 delegates, represented by Mr. Yoichiro Takanashi, Deputy President of JES, will present a speech on “matching Japanese market with local sustainability”, touching on the findings by participating in the field trip around Sabah and Sarawak.
