Sabre, Worldpay team up for new airline payment solution
Travel tech company Sabre and payment processor Worldpay have joined forces for an integrated payment solution to allow airlines to reap the benefits of expansion into new markets.
It will support all major card types and launch local payment types globally, including those with a regional footprint.
China Union Pay is the first local payment type offered through the integrated platform.
Launch customer Ethiopian Airlines has already signed up to offer China Union Pay through Worldpay and Sabre.
Sabre says using a single payment solution will generate new revenue streams for airlines and allow for better analysis of payment trends through a single, streamlined customer view.
It provides stricter controls for chargeback and fraud management, the companies say.
"Collaborating with Worldpay on a combined solution means we can offer our global customers, and their customers, more choice when it comes to using different payment methods where credit card use is lower," said Vinit Doshi, senior vice president of SabreSonic Customer Sales & Service.
"Historically airlines have long struggled with connecting critical business operations to global payments which can offer customers choice and airlines the insights into customer purchasing trends they find so valuable," added Kevin Dallas, chief product & marketing officer at Worldpay.
