Safety and security high on the agenda at this week’s ITB
Travel safety and security are high on the agenda at this year’s travel trade gathering in Berlin which kicks off today.
ITB Berlin will see more than 10,000 companies from 184 countries represented on 1,092 stands over the course of five days.
"Amid the latest geopolitical situation holidaymakers have become unsure about how safe it is to travel," said the event organisers.
Key topics will be the ever-deepening geopolitical crises and technological advances in artificial intelligence.
During the event, the results of a travel safety survey, commissioned by ITB, will be unveiled.
It will reveal the scale of travellers’ concerns in the world’s main tourism source markets and what kind of information travellers consider helpful.
Some of the results were released early and show 97% of the global interviewees agreed that the question of how safe a destination is plays an important role.
"Despite this, for the majority of those polled it has not dampened their desire to travel. This year only 4% of Britons and 6% of Germans and French respectively would prefer not to travel abroad for safety reasons," said ITB.
The research was carried out in cooperation with the independent market researcher Norstat and by Travelzoo.
