Samsung signs as sponsor of PyeongChang Winter Olympics

Wednesday, 08 Apr, 2015 0

South Korean multinational Samsung Group has signed on as the latest high profile sponsor for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Samsung has agreed a deal worth 100 billion won (about US$91.9 million) and will supply office equipment and cover expenses for torch relays, Olympic cultural events and the Paralympic Winter Games.

Samsung will become the official Olympics partner for wireless communication equipment and computing equipment category.

Samsung also sponsored the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan and is also a corporate partner of the International Olympic Committee.

The announcement comes after a plea from President Park Geun-hye urging local firms to support the South Korean Winter Olympics.

An organizing committee official said the Samsung deal will hopefully encourage other local companies to follow.
