San Diego Zoo reveals new Elephant Valley experience
San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has unveiled an ambitious new project.
Construction is officially underway on the largest project in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s 50-year history.
The Denny Sanford Elephant Valley will transform the current elephant environment into a savanna.
Elephant Valley will give guests the opportunity to connect with elephants like never before.
“We are thrilled with a first-of-its-kind immersive experience for visitors,” said Paul A. Baribault, CEO, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.
“Elephant Valley could not be achieved without the incredible community, donors, members and allies who support us.”
Guests will learn about elephants’ intricate social dynamics.
At the center of the guest experience is a two-story lodge which will provide opportunities to learn from educators.
It will provide opportunities to learn from educators.
Flora in Elephant Valley has been carefully curated by a team of horticulturists and arborists to replicate the African grasslands.
African savanna elephants are currently listed as Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List.
Elephant Valley is funded by thousands of donors and longtime San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance supporter Denny Sanford.
Sanford was also the lead donor for Wildlife Explorers Basecamp at the San Diego Zoo, and for the educational television programing.
Elephant Valley is expected to be completed in 2025.
