SAS launches new ski flights from Heathrow

Scandinavian Airlines is to launch flights between London Heathrow and the new Scandinavian Mountains Airport due to open in December.

The Saturday service, which will operate from December 29 to April 11, will make it easier for skiers to reach resorts in both Sweden and Norway.

The new airport currently under construction is in the Swedish town of Dalarna, close to the border with Norway.

It is a 20 to 40 minute drive from around 250 ski slopes in the Salen, Sweden and Trysil in Norway.

SAS and SkiStar are also entering into a strategic partnership which will simplify the booking procedure for all components of a ski package including accommodation, transfers, ski passes and lessons.

SAS executive vice president commercial Karl Sandlund said: "We are delighted that SAS is able to offer the first international flights to the new Scandinavian Mountains Airport.

"A short transfer time and weekend flights from the UK mean we hope lots of British winter sport enthusiasts will travel to explore one of Scandinavia’s leading winter sport regions. Already working in partnership, we will continue to develop our collaboration with SkiStar to make booking a ski trip as simple as possible".

Salen, Sweden is 25 minutes from Scandinavian Mountains Airport, and is the largest skiing area in country, made up of four areas with over 100 slopes between them.

Trysil, pictured, is Norway’s largest skiing area, a 40-minute transfer from Scandinavian Mountains Airport.
