Scottish winter resorts to offer guaranteed skiing
Two of Scotland’s five main ski resorts are promising guaranteed snow this winter after installing snow-making facilities.
CairnGorm Mountain and Glencoe Mountain in the Highlands will start producing man-made snow next month.
The Lecht in Aberdeenshire will also trial a snow-making machine in February and March.
The move follows a poor season last winter, when there was a lack of natural snow and Glencoe, Scotland’s longest-established resort, was able to offer only 32 days skiing.
Glencoe Mountain has set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough cash to buy a snow-making machine, which it is currently leasing.
So far, it has raised £53,000 of the £190,000 needed to buy the £430,000 machine, which it said would allow it to guarantee the length of its ski season.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise has provided funding to The Lecht Ski Company for its snow making trial.
