Search continues for girl missing in sea off south Wales
The search for a missing 14-year-old girl who was last seen "in difficulty" in the sea off the coast of Barry Island in south Wales is to resume today.
Police say the girl was in the water with her friends at Whitmore Bay on Barry Island when she got into difficulty.
Coastguards said that a "low water search" will be carried out in rock pools this morning.
Three lifeboats, a police helicopter and an RAF search and rescue helicopter had joined the search for the youngster last night, who is believed to have been on holiday in the area.
Local councillor Steffan Wiliam said the coastline around Barry Island was "generally very safe, particularly now we have lifeguards", although he added: "You always have to be sensible on the beaches here."
Whitmore Bay is part of an enclosed stretch of coastline although the tidal range – the difference between high and low tide – is one of the highest in the world.
