Search for missing cruise passenger abandoned
The US Coast Guard has called off its search for a man who fell overboard from a cruise ship off Key Largo, Florida.
Search and rescue teams had scoured more than 2,500 square nautical miles since the 46-year-old American fell from Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas on Friday.
Search teams had been in the water searching for David Mossman since early on Saturday.
"We want to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr Mossman as the decision to suspend a search is never an easy one to make and is done with great care and deliberation," said Chris Eddy, technical specialist of the Coast Guard 7th District.
"Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and an exhaustive search, our crews were unable to locate him."
"Royal Caribbean’s care team is providing support to the guest’s family and our thoughts and prayers are with them," the cruise line said in a statement.
The ship had left Port Everglades on February 28 and resumed its journey back to Florida over the weekend.
