Search for survivors following second Italy earthquake
Rescue workers in northern Italy are continuing to search for survivors following a second earthquake in the region which has claimed at least 16 lives.
A further 350 people were injured, according to the BBC, after the magnitude 5.8 quake struck close to Bologna in the Emilia Romagna region on Tuesday morning. The towns of Mirandola, Medolla and Cavezzo were closest to the epicenter but tremors were felt as far away as Milan and Venice.
It followed an earlier 6.0 magnitude earthquake nine days earlier, which killed seven people and toppled several of the region’s churches and historic buildings.
An estimated 14,000 people in the region are now homeless and Prime Minister Mario Monti said his government will do everything possible to restore "normal life" to the area.
