Seattle ferry runs aground
Operator Washington State Ferries is investigating why one of its vessels ran aground en route to Seattle.
The Walla Walla ship lost power and ended up grounded near Bainbridge Island.
It was headed to Seattle from Bremerton.
There were no injuries, and all 596 passengers safely evacuated, the Coast Guard said.
The Walla Walla is a jumbo class ferry with 15 crew and can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers plus 188 vehicles.
Ferry company officials say the ship suffered a sudden power loss.
Stuck in low tide, a hybrid electric ferry was used to shuttle passengers off the Walla Walla to the ferry terminal.
