Second Briton dies in Canary islands

A second British holidaymaker this week has drowned in a hotel swimming pool in the Canary Islands, according to London’s Evening Standard.

It said that 38-year-old Andrew Nicol died in a pool at the Hotel Tamaimo Tropical on Tenerife on Monday, a day after six-year-old Megan Thrower from King’s Lynn in Norfolk drowned in a hotel pool on neighbouring Gran Canaria.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are aware of the death of a British national on October 18 in Tenerife. We are providing consular assistance to the family."

Spanish police said they believed Mr Nicol, from Somerset, died of natural causes.

A judge has opened an investigation into the death of Megan, who’s family had booked their holiday with Thomson.
