Secret Agent reports that Royal Brunei is stopping flights from Brunei to Ho Chi Min City in December
A Secret Agent reports that it appears that Royal Brunei is stopping flights from Brunei to Ho Chi Min City in December, with this information provided to the Secret Agent leaving Aussies from BNE with SQ the only option from Dec.
It would appear JQ is out the game for a while given issues on aircraft delivery from Seattle.
The current arrangement for flights on JQ to SGN requires routing via Darwin which is a joke at best given timetables, connections, and availability.
The expats I deal with use SG as other options misconnect, MH has shocking route out of SYD requiring a stop in BNE and it is a red eye flight.
Virgin has a codeshare agreement with Royal Brunei but does not have any equipment available with that range and not sure it is on the books for them given, JQ runs a domestic service in VN.
The Vietnamese Community is the third largest ethnic group in Australia from non-English speaking countries.
Currently, there are over 200 thousand persons born in Vietnam and over 45 thousand children of one or both parents born in Vietnam. http://www.vietnameseinaustralia.com.au/
It seems the 1/4 million ethnic community and one of Australia’s strongest trading partners and the new jewel of Asia is being ‘overlooked’ as consolidation takes place.
Interesting that QF doesn’t pick up the routes dropped by JQ.
So much for looking after the consumer or perhaps it is the market control of QF, as Vietnam Airlines is partially owned by QF and also owns JQ, that is controlling traffic to VN from Australia for the ‘benefit’ of share holders.
As a consumer it forces me to choose other options….. in this case BI and now SG.
On a side note we have stopped using the corporate Diners Club card because of QF’s change of FF system and the lack of service to VN.
I’ve moved $20k a month to Amex as I can redeem points on Asia friendly airlines through them.
Award partners should be aware the decisions made by airlines affect them immediately, as everyone looks to maximise service options for points.
No seats or availability means the $ goes to where we can redeem the points we earn.
The new QF/JQ FF program of any seat is beaten by discount fares in many cases, so why bother looking at QF?
Off my soapbox.
