Security scare disrupts Melbourne airport
MELBOURNE – Passengers were delayed following a security scare at Melbourne Airport today.
The Melbourne Age revealed flights were delayed by more than an hour at the airport’s Qantas domestic terminal after a passenger carrying a mystery parcel sparked the alert.
The terminal was evacuated and passengers already on aircraft waiting on the tarmac were forced to disembark.
A Qantas spokesman said a passenger entered the terminal’s secure area with an unscreened parcel, leading to the security crackdown.
Crowds of delayed travellers massed outside the terminal at the height of the alert.
International flights were not affected.
