Shakeup at Uber sees two execs depart
Following an underwhelming start as a publically traded company, Uber’s chief executive has instigated a C-suite shake-up.
Uber’s chief operating officer and head of marketing have left their posts, as CEO Dara Khosrowshahi vowed to be ‘more hands-on.’
COO Barry Harford and Rebecca Messina, chief marketing officer have left.
"There’s never really a right time to announce departures or changes like this, but with the IPO behind us, I felt this was a good moment to simplify and set us up for the future," Khosrowshahi said.
"I now have the ability to be even more involved in the day-to-day operations of our biggest businesses, the core platform of Rides and Eats, and have decided they should report directly to me," he wrote in a message to employees.
Messina had been at Uber just nine months but took the fall as ‘marketing is so important to out business and our brand continues to be challenged’ Khosrowshahi.
Uber’s current share price still remains below its opening IPO price set at $45.
In its first ever filingas a public company Uber said revenue was up 20% to $3.1 billion but it still had losses of $1 billion.
