Shark attacks teenagers on popular seaside resort
A sea and air hunt has begun in the US after a shark attacked two teenagers on the same day at a popular seaside resort.
A 13-year old girl lost her arm at the elbow and suffered injuries to her leg in shallow water on a North Carolina beach.
An hour later a 16-year-old boy, lost his left arm below the shoulder after an attack by the same shark. less than two miles away an hour later on Sunday.
The girl, who was on holiday in Oak Island, was airlifted to hospital where she underwent surgery.
Both victims, who had been in waist-high water just off the shore, were airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and are in good condition following surgery.
Both beaches were shut to the public but re-opened today. open again today despite further sightings of sharks.
Brunswick Sheriff’s Office has ordered a sea and air hunt for the shark.
