Shine Awards winners announced
The top women in travel have been unveiled at the 2008 Shine Awards.
The winners were:
Corporate Woman – Vanessa Lensenn, Go Learn To
Woman Entrepreneur – Julia Feuell, New Frontiers
Outstanding Mentor – Gina McAdams, Stratemarco Limited
Public Sector Woman – Karen Illingworth, The Mersey Partnership
Young Achiever – Emma Chang, The Liner Hotel
The judges awarded two special prices and two commendations:
1st Special Prize for female leadership to Fiona Jeffery, chair of World Travel Market
For her ability to lead and engage others in her vision and for her work in establishing the charity ‘Just a drop’.
2nd Special Prize for young entrepreneur to Karen Eason of Sunshine Travel
For being charismatic and inspirational to a young generation of professionals and for standing out in a very crowded marketplace.
1st Commendation to Lynn Westbury of the Foresight Centre
For singlehandedly delivering a business plan to develop the first Business Conference Centre in Merseyside.
2nd Commendation to Sharon Glancy of Stonebow
For showing great commitment to training and development and achieving exceptional performance in an under-recognised sector.
A ‘talent management’ round table was held in conjunction with the awards at the London metropolitan University’s Graduate Centre and will repeated again next year.
The 25 participants debated a number of key issues including better internal communication by managers to staff during the current economic environment, creative brainstorming, skills tranfers between employees and increased use of mentoring.
