From tiny social travel company to $12bn OTA, enterprises line up for WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow awards

This year’s Tourism for Tomorrow awards honoured a wide range of organizations in the travel and tourism industry.

Recipients included the green luxury hotel business Soneva run by long time green campaigners Sonu and Eva Shivdasani; the committed next green capital of Europe – Ljubliana; a tiny social enterprise in India – Reality Tours and Travel and the massive $12bn OTA Tripadvisor.

Said the new chair of the awards, Fiona Jeffery OBE: "The awards shine a light on outstanding examples of business practice"

Winners as follows:

Community Award

Winner – Reality Tours and Travel, India

Finalists – Feynan Ecolodge, Jordan and Grootbos Nature Reserve, South Africa

Destination Award

Winner – Ljubljana, Slovenia:

Finalists – Northeast and Yilan Coast, Taiwan and Sozopol, Bulgaria

Environment Award

Winner – The Soneva Group, Maldives and Thailand

Finalists – Laguna Lodge Eco-Resort & Nature Reserve, Guatemala and Rivers Fiji, Fiji

Innovation Award

Winner – TripAdvisor GreenLeaders, USA

Finalist – ABTA Welfare Guidance for Animals in Tourism, UK and Red Sustainable Travel, Mexico

People Award

Winner – Confortel Hoteles, Spain

Finalists – Global Travel and Tourism Partnership, USA and Mountain Shepherds Initiative, India
