The recent engine room fire aboard Oceania Cruises’ Insignia will take up to nine weeks to repair, the cruise line’s parent company, Norwegian Cruise Line Ltd said.

As a result part of Insignia’s 180-day world cruise has been canceled which was planned to set sail from Miami on January 10, 2015.

Instead it will now begin in Singapore on March 22.

A 24-day voyage departing December 17 was also canceled in its entirety.

Guests booked on the world cruise will be offered a full refund for the three canceled cruise segments along with an additional 25% given as a cruise credit for future sailings.

Guests also have the option to cancel and receive a full refund plus a pro rata 25% cruise credit.

"We understand how disappointing this news must be to our valued guests and we extend our sincere appreciation for their cooperation and understanding," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian CEO.

The fire occurred in Insignia’s engine room while the 684-passenger ship was docked in St. Lucia during a 10-day cruise, claiming the lives of one crew member and two contractors.
