Silverjet spurred by more direct online bookings
All business class carrier Silverjet is to unveil a new route at the end of the month as it attracts more bookings direct online.
The carrier starts a second daily service between Luton and Newark on July 31 with the addition of a second aircraft.
The second flight will depart Luton at 16:45 and arrive in New York at 19:45 local time and return departing New York 21:45 and arriving in Luton at 09:45 local time.
The carrier revealed a record load factor of 70% in June, carrying 3,564 revenue paying passengers. But its punctulaity record was poor with only a 56% on time departure record.
Chief executive Lawrence Hunt said the record June load factor gave the airline its fifth consecutive month of growth.
“Forward bookings continue to be ahead of the Board’s expectations and we are seeing a strong increase in the number of customers booking directly via our website,” he said.
“As is traditional in the transatlantic business class market, the summer months of July and August are softer than the rest of the year; however Silverjet’s customer base has a strong mix of leisure as well as business customers.
“We look forward to the introduction of our second daily service on 31st July 2007 which will enable us to offer more business class seats between London and Newark than any other carrier.
“We will announce the route for our third aircraft at the end of July.”
