Singapore Airlines cancels Bangkok flights
As Thailand braces for a Black Monday shutdown of Bangkok, airlines are assessing their services to the Thai capital.
Singapore Airlines is expected to cut up to 19 flights to Bangkok, claiming low demand due to on-going political protests against the Thai government.
The cuts will affect flights from January 14 to February 25 based on a drop in bookings.
SIA confirmed to the Straits Times that it has informed affected customers, who will be given refunds or put on other flights.
Protestors have threatened to "shutdown" Bangkok on January 13, blocking all main roads in the capital.
TTR Weekly says flights to Phuket are packed and hotels report they are benefitting as travellers book a beach holiday rather than risk staying in Bangkok.
Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports expects tourist arrivals will drop between 10% and 12% in 2014 due to the prolonged political demonstrations.
