Singapore opens border to Chinese travellers

Saturday, 01 Nov, 2020 0

Singapore will allow Chinese travellers to enter the city state quarantine-free from 6 November.

They will be able to enter with just a negative Covid-19 test and stay without quarantining.

Singapore also added the Australian state of Victoria to its safe inbound list.

Singapore had already announced the reopening of its borders for arrivals from Brunei, New Zealand, Vietnam and all other states in Australia apart from Victoria.

It deems China and Victoria state as low risk markets that have been successful in containing the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Travellers from the two countries have to apply for an air travel pass to enter Singapore.

However, it is unclear how many will take up the chance for overseas travel as there is still a requirement to quarantine on return to the two countries.

Both governments have also imposed tight restrictions on citizens leaving the country, which do not include general tourism.

The decision by Singapore is still unilateral although Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison recently said the government is looking at creating a travel bubble with Singapore, as well as other countries in Asia and the Pacific..
