Singapore travel agency boss dead, several injured in Saudi Arabia bus accident
A Singapore travel agency boss is being mourned after he was killed in a bus accident during a minor haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Abu Bakar Osman, director of the travel agency Abu Bakar Travel Services died after a bus crashed, with several other mostly Singaporean passengers taken to hospital.
The bus was carrying 31 passengers performing the umroh pilgrimage in Mecca.
The bus appeared to have collided with a truck.
Family run Abu Bakar Travel Services had organised the trip and Abu Bakar’s wife was also among those injured.
The Association of Muslim Travel Agents said 10 passengers remain in hospital.
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore said it is working with the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist those injured and their families.
In a Facebook post Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong expressed condolence to the dead man and a speedy recovery for those injured.
