Singapore travel agency Misa Travel shuts down
Well known Singapore travel agency Misa Travel is no more.
The agency closed down a day after the Singapore Tourism Board revoked its license.
STB has advised customers to contact MISA Travel to check the status of their bookings or claim a refund although that may be increasingly difficult as Channel News Asia reports customer are having problems getting in touch.
The company said all services ‘ceased with immediate effect.’
"A team has been set up and they will be contacting passengers in the next couple of days to provide more details on claims," it added in a message posted on its website.
The closure affects the misatravel.com website as well as its other travel search sites www.airfares.com.sg, www.cruises.com.sg, www.landtours.com.sg and www.getaways.com.sg.
Customers with travel insurance, which invariably covers travel agent insolvency, should contact their insurance providers.
Those without can get in touch with the Consumers Association of Singapore or the Small Claims Tribunal, STB said.
Misa Travel had been in business for more than 20 years and was thought of as one of the most successful traditional travel agencies to have made the transition to a mostly online business.
Singapore’s consumer watchdog says it has received several claims for refunds totalling about S$18,000 and that is expected to rise in the coming days.
