Singapore’s Night Safari enjoys baby boom!
Singapore’s premier Night Safari has celebrated the birth of more than 30 new nocturnal animals since January this year – the latest additions being two female spotted hyenas born to proud parents Shankina and Skinny on 15 June.
The baby hyenas join other recent arrivals including: ‘Nila’, a baby Himalayan tahr born on 1 June to father ‘Bronx’ and mother ‘Spot; two bat-eared fox pups born on 3 June, increasing the Safari’s total pack size to nine; and a pretty barking deer fawn born on 22 May.
“Singapore’s award winning Night Safari – the world’s first wildlife park built specifically for visits at night – is one of our nation’s most popular tourist attractions and welcomes more than 1 million visitors every year,” said Mr Kevin Leong, Regional Director Oceania, Singapore Tourism Board.
“The recent spike in births is testament to the success of the Night Safari’s world-class captive breeding program, and we look forward to introducing the new members of our zoological family to visitors in the coming months.”
Nestled in 40 hectares of lush secondary forest, the Night Safari offers guests the unique experience of exploring wildlife in a tropical jungle at night, Through the use of a subtle lighting technique, guests are able to view over 1,000 nocturnal animals of 120 species (29% of which are threatened) in vast naturalistic habitats.
Visitors can choose to view the animals, including the new arrivals, from either one of three walking trails: Fishing Cat; Forest Giants; or Leopard Trail; or via a open-sided tram which winds its way past the Safari’s award winning ‘open-enclosure’ exhibits.
In addition to the flora and fauna which can be enjoyed at the Night Safari, the Lion City is also home to the world famous Singapore Zoo, Jurong BirdPark, Underwater World, Dolphin Lagoon and Butterfly Kingdom.
Admission to the Singapore Night Safari is S$20 per adult and S$10 per child (aged 10 and below) and the attraction is open daily from 6pm Tel: (65) 6269 3411 or log onto www.nightsafari.com.sg
