Sir Alex Ferguson offered holiday freebies
Travel companies are tripping over themselves to offer a freebie to outgoing Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
Ferguson, 71, announced his retirement this week after 26 years at the club.
Thomas Cook, ‘as the official travel provider to the 2013 Barclays Premier League Champions’, was happy to offer him a holiday of a lifetime to kick start his well-earned retirement.
Its marketing, sales and e-commerce director Mike Hoban said: "For many years, we have worked closely with Sir Alex, his staff and the players, and enjoyed many fantastic experiences alongside the Old Trafford legend.
"Now, as he enters his retirement, we would like to return the favour and invite Sir Alex to enjoy an unforgettable experience with us – on a Thomas Cook holiday."
Meanwhile, the public relations team at Ryanair were quick off the mark and put out a press release offering Fergie two free flights on any of its 32 summer routes from Manchester .
Ryanair’s Michelle Lowe said: "Since kicking-off in the mid-80s, building a winning team, knocking the former leaders off their perch and going on to dominate Europe, Ryanair knows all about success for three decades – just like Fergie, and we’re delighted to offer him two free flights on any of our 32 routes from Manchester this summer for a well-deserved break."
