Six die in Kenya explosion
The Foreign Office has confirmed that six people died in an explosion in the Kenya capital Nairobi, but it has not amended its underlying travel advice for the country.
It said the explosion on Saturday took place on a public bus in the Pangani area of the city, in the outskirts of the Eastleigh suburb. A further 24 people were injured.
The Foreign Office is advising against all but essential travel to the Eastleigh area of Nairobi and to low income areas of the city. It has also been advising against travel to within 60kms of the Somalian border since a spate of kidnappings in Kenya.
Saturday’s fatal attack followed a failed grenade attack on a minibus carrying tourists – possibly British – in the Likoni area of Mombasa last Friday. They were understood to be travelling from the Diani Beach area to the Masai Mara safari park when a grenade was thrown into the bus.
No-one was injured as the grenade failed to explode.
